Proberaum for iPad

Proberaum (German for "rehearsal room") is your practice room on the iPad: plug your instrument into a USB audio interface, play through pedalboard and amp, and rehearse to your own songs - just like jamming with your band. For guitar, bass and any other instrument, dreamt up and built in my workshop in Dortmund, Germany.

What Proberaum does

Pedalboard and amp built in: compressor, drive, modulation and delay, plus an amp simulation for guitar and bass. Up to four effects in a row - including Audio Units (AUv3) from other makers.
Your own songs: WAV, AIFF, MP3, M4A/AAC, FLAC and Ogg. Proberaum detects the tempo and finds bar 1.
Practise like in the rehearsal room: count-in up to bar 1, optional click, loops on whole bars. If a part is tricky, play it slower or in another key.
Set lists: put songs together into a set and play it straight through, with its own sound for each song.
Tuner with tunings for guitar and bass, and recording of your playing along to the song.

What you need

An iPad with iPadOS 16 or later.
A USB audio interface that works without its own driver ("class compliant"). Depending on your iPad's port, you'll need an adapter to USB.

Without an interface - that is, with the iPad's built-in microphone and speaker - the input stays muted, because otherwise you'd get feedback right away. Loading and playing songs still works.

Quick help

How do I get my songs into the app?

With the Files app: put your songs in the folder "On My iPad › Proberaum", for example from iCloud Drive or a USB stick. In Proberaum, load them with "Load audio file...".

I can't hear my instrument.

Is the interface connected and switched on, is the instrument plugged into the right input and is the gain on the interface turned up?
Without an interface, the input stays muted to prevent feedback (see above).
Some interfaces need more power than the iPad supplies. An adapter with its own power port or a powered USB hub will help.

Something doesn't work or the app crashes - what now?

Send me a problem report: in Proberaum, tap the gear icon and then "Send problem report...". The report is a log with your device, versions and the names of plugins and songs - no recordings, no audio. You send it yourself by email or via the share sheet. Please add a line about what you were doing, so I can find the bug faster.
