Proberaum: practice app with count-in, amp sim and plugin host – from a guitar workshop

Ruhrpott Guitars from Dortmund, Germany, releases Proberaum 1.0 and eight audio plugins for Mac and Windows

Dortmund, 21 October 2026 – Ruhrpott Guitars, a workshop for guitars, basses, pickups and amplifiers in Dortmund, Germany, releases Proberaum, a standalone practice app for guitarists, bassists, singers and all other musicians. Alongside it come eight plugins in AU and VST3 format, inspired by studio gear and effects from music history.

Proberaum: practice without a DAW

Proberaum is deliberately not a DAW. The instrument runs from the audio interface through up to four plugins (AU/VST3) or the built-in amp simulation Backline with four guitar and three bass models. A song plays back alongside, and a Blend control mixes the two. The app detects the song’s tempo and also follows recordings without a click track where the band speeds up or slows down. The count-in always lands on the one, even in the middle of a song.

• Sets: play a whole programme in order, each song with its own sound
• Simple recording with instant playback, WAV export including a dry DI signal for re-amping

• Playback from WAV, AIFF, MP3, M4A, FLAC and more; the Windows version is ASIO® compatible

Analogue gear stays in the game: an amp with a load box, a preamp or a pedalboard on the interface simply replaces the plugins.

The plugins

• Doppelspur + Überholspur – artificial double tracking with virtual tape machines, modelled on Abbey Road Studios in 1966, in mono and true stereo
• Namenlos – flanger, chorus, doubling and tremolo, modelled on the Lovetone “Flange With No Name”
• Ebb & Flow – BBD modulation with a random LFO and low pass gate, from tape stop to chorus
• Kaleidoskop + Prisma – random multi-effect with a single control, plus an open version with full access
• Spurpolitur – seven effects with one knob each for vocals, guitar, bass, drums and keys
• Omnia – string ensemble, synthesizer and bass, modelled on a 1978 string machine
